SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) __ A 14-year-old boy faces a felony train wrecking charge for pulling a switch and causing three cars of a freight train to derail.
No one was hurt by Wednesday´s derailment. The cars were hauling chemicals and there was no leak. But the freight cars struck a commercial building and several utility poles, causing a brief power outage in the area. The boy was arrested yesterday and released to the custody of his parents pending a May 10th arraignment.
A Union Pacific railroad spokesman says the boy admitted to pulling the switch. Authorities believe two other boys were present when the train derailed. They could be cited for trespassing on railroad property.
