SAN FRANCISCO (AP) __ A new report says the Bay Area is the fifth most linguistically diverse region in the United States.
The report based on Census 2000 information said 112 languages are spoken in the region. The only cities with a more diverse language pool are New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.
The report was compiled by a group that seeks to make English the official language in the United States. A spokesman says they conducted the reseach to show that the United States is much more than just an English and Spanish speaking country.
