Waterford Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Vehicular Manslaughter

A Waterford man has been sentenced to two years in jail for a fatal accident while driving under the influence of marijuana.

Jerrod Dermond was driving 80 miles per hour in 2003 when he crashed head-on into a minivan in Modesto. Dermond´s passenger, 16-year-old Kristie Ward, was

killed in the crash. Two people in the minivan suffered serious injuries.

A Stanislaus County Superior Court judge sentenced Dermond yesterday to a year in jail for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and a year in jail for causing serious injuries to two people.
