The FBI´s search for evidence in a three-year-old case involving the murder and kidnapping of five Los Angeles residents from the former Soviet Union continues.
Both the Tuolumne and Calaveras County Sheriff´s departments were on hand to assist federal investigators in the search of New Melones reservoir.
Searchers focused their efforts near the Stevenot Bridge on Highway 49 yesterday. The FBI says the search is part of an investigation into the kidnapping and murders that resulted in five bodies being discovered in the reservoir in 2003.
Authorities say the crimes may be related to a hostage for ransom operation involving Russian organized crime organizations. Four people have been charged in the case, three of which face the death penalty if convicted.
