Lockyer Changes Plans Now He Will Run For State Treasurer

San Francisco, CA — Attorney General Bill Lockyer is dropping plans to run for California governor.

Instead, the 64-year-old Democrat says he´ll run for state treasurer in 2006.

He says he wants to avoid the character attacks and money chase that come with a gubernatorial bid.

GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has not said whether he will seek reelection.

Lockyer also says he wants to spend more time with his family. He has raised about $11 million for his next campaign.

State Treasurer Phil Angelides is the only Democrat to formally announce plans to run for governor next year.
