Big Money Builds Behind Special Election Measures

Sacramento, CA — New reports show groups backing a long list of ballot measures have raised more than $15 million this year even though Governor Schwarzenegger has not yet called a special election.

Citizens to Save California, a group led by the California Chamber of Commerce and other G-O-P supporters of the governor, reported about $8 million in contributions during the first three months of the year.

Meanwhile, the Alliance for a Better California, a coalition of the state´s largest labor groups including the California Teachers Association, Service Employees International Union and California Professional Firefighters opposing the governor, brought in $7.5 million this quarter.

Schwarzenegger wants to ask voters to approve a new cap on state spending and new rules for drawing legislative districts among other ideas.
