Folsom, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger signed legislation Tuesday revamping the state prison system.
The governor signed the bill at Folsom State Prison as lawmakers who supported the bill looked on.
The reorganization puts the adult and youth corrections systems under the umbrella of the so-called Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
It also centralizes leadership in the governor´s hand-picked corrections czar.
The new agency will replace two others in July.
Reshaping the troubled prison system has been at the forefront of the governor´s reform agenda.
