Sacramento, CA — California´s annual “Day of the Teacher” took on a different meaning Wednesday in San Francisco.
Hundreds of teachers lined the streets near San Francisco City Hall during rush hour and waved signs that read: “Governor Keep your Promise to Fund Education.”
Members of the California Teachers Association organized after-school rallies and demonstrations throughout the state Wednesday to oppose what they see as the governor´s failure to support public education.
Schwarzenegger is preparing to unveil a new budget plan for next year that is not likely to provide more money for schools.
The governor is also weeks away from deciding whether to call a special election to push ballot measures that could also cut school funding in the future and increase the time it takes teachers to earn tenure.
