Anglers Angry That State Hasn’t Used $2.5 Million Fund

Sacramento, CA — Anglers are angry that the Schwarzenegger administration hasn´t tapped into a $2.5 million fund generated by an extra five dollar charge to fish in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and Sacramento Valley rivers.

The money is supposed to be used to for programs to provide more shoreline access, restore fish habitat and other projects that would generate long-term, sustainable sport fishing benefits.

But last fall the state Finance Department rejected a Department of Fish and Game plan to spend about $1.6 million of the money in the fiscal year that starts July 1st.

Administration officials say the proposal violated Governor Schwarzenegger´s directive for state agencies not to propose programs to expand government.
