San Francisco, CA — State Controller Steve Westly has formally launched his campaign for governor, becoming the second Democratic candidate hoping to unseat Governor Schwarzenegger if he runs for re-election in 2006.
Westly is vowing to win the Democratic Party´s nomination on the strength of his ideas rather than being the “anti-Arnold.”
Westly follows state Treasurer Phil Angelides, who declared his candidacy in March.
A multimillionaire, Westly wrote a $10 million check to his gubernatorial account last month and has promised to spend much more of his personal fortune if necessary.
Schwarzenegger has yet to announce whether he plans to seek another term, a decision he is not expected to make until after California´s November eighth special election.
