Governor Urges Californians To Reduce Energy Use During Summer Months

Sacramento, CA — Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger urged Californians to conserve energy this summer while promoting his plan to create a state energy agency.

He says he doesn´t want a repeat of the power crisis of 2000-2001, which followed the state´s foray into deregulated energy markets and led to rolling blackouts and soaring utility bills.

Schwarzenegger has laid out a ten-point electricity plan that includes increasing the state´s energy efficiency 20 percent by 2010.

It also would allow large businesses to choose their electricity supplier and encourage technology to cut power usage during peak hours.
