Sonora, Ca — The California Highway Patrol will be keeping an eye out for impaired drivers over the upcoming holiday weekends.
A year ago 39 Californians lost their lives in vehicle related accidents over the Christmas weekend while 44 died over the New Years weekend.
Officer Tom Wills notes that many residents stay at home with family during Christmas, while at New Years they are often traveling to different events and parties. That, often leads to New Years being the more deadly holiday.
Over the course of the two holiday weekends a year ago, 2,350 motorists were pulled over for driving under the influence.
