San Andreas, CA — The sale of pets in public places will soon be illegal in Calaveras County.
The Board of Supervisors introduced an ordinance Monday banning such sales at the request of the Domestic Animal Advisory Committee.
The committee says selling or giving away animals goes against the goals of the spaying and neutering program. Furthermore, those animals may not have received inoculations for infectious diseases.
This ban does not apply to adoptions hosted by the Animal Services Department or humane organizations supported by the department.
The ordinance will take effect 30 days after it is approved, which is set for December 4.
