Sonora, CA– Mother Lode Senior Drivers will be the focus of a first-ever Senior Safe Mobility Week.
Lt. Mike Ayala, commander of the Sonora Area of the California Highway Patrol, says the October 22nd through the 28th event is proclaimed by Governor Schwarzenegger to dramatize safety and mobility complications faced by senior drivers. CHP officer Tom Wills says in reality, this is a year round event in the Mother Lode.
He says it is important for senior drivers to evaluate themselves on mobility as well as how quick they can make a decision about a situation on the road. He adds that family members should help evaluate the driving ability of their elderly family members as well.
Although the awareness week only lasts through the 28th, CHP officials say that like cancer, residents should constantly be checking for signs of poor driving.
