Oakland, CA — Governor Schwarzenegger is set to sign a bill that would ban using cell phones in vehicles without a hands-free device, except in emergencies.
The signing ceremony is scheduled for Oakland.
The new law (SB1613) will go in effect July 1, 2008. It establishes a fine of $20 for the first offense and $50 dollars for subsequent violations.
