Costly Care For Elderly Prison Inmates

Sacramento, CA — A study shows California´s inmate population is rapidly aging and will cost taxpayers more in prison health care costs in the years to come.

It costs two to three times more to house and care for the elderly than for younger inmates. The report is one of three studies being released as state lawmakers begin a special session on Governor Schwarzenegger´s $6 billion plan to cut overcrowding in California´s prisons.
