Oakland, CA — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides says he will endorse the campaign finance-reform initiative on the November ballot.
The initiative would limit campaign contributions and authorize public financing for state candidates. In backing the initiative, Angelides is breaking from some of his party´s most influential supporters. He says he wants to reduce the influence of H-M-Os, oil and tobacco companies in Sacramento.
The move also sets him apart from Governor Schwarzenegger, who opposes the type of public financing that would be implemented under Proposition 89.
