Erdogan’s security guards scuffle with Bosnian border police

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Authorities say Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s security guards have scuffled with Bosnian border police at Sarajevo airport after the guards refused to hand over their weapons on arrival.

The border police said the incident ended once Erdogan stepped out of the plane. Erdogan is attending an economic summit of southeastern European countries.

Bosnian media reported “pushing” between Erdogan’s guards and Bosnian police followed “verbal exchanges.”

Jasminka Mujic, a border police spokeswoman, said “they did not want to respect the procedure” and hand over their guns.

During his 2-day visit, Erdogan plans to pay respects to over 8,000 Bosnian Muslims who were killed in the Srebrenica massacre in 1995.
