Join the Tuolumne County Trailhead hikers on the Peoria Railroad Grade, rarely accessible due to Homeland Security restrictions. Bureau of Reclamation Ranger Hilary Maxworthy and another offer their expertise in wildflower identification and other interpretation of the physical, natural, and cultural aspects along the route. Highlights will be access to normally restricted areas such as the railroad grade, the Melones Dam face, and the Melones Dam Overlook as well as delicate wildflowers and views into the Stanislaus River canyon. The hike is 6 miles round trip and fairly easy, as it’s a former railroad grade. To RSVP and receive meet-up instructions, go to the “Contact Us” page at kaad-lp.org. Refer to TCT in the subject line. The Tuolumne County Trailhead program airs on KAAD-LP 103.5 FM (Sonora’s community radio station) on second and fourth Sundays at 12:30pm; hikes are monthly on first Saturdays.
