In their third season, Shakespeare on the Vine Theatre Company will present one of William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies Hamlet — considered one of the most powerful plays in the English language. The piece will be performed on the outdoor Arden Stage at Brice Station Vineyards starring Sean M. Lewis. Director, Tara Kayton and her talented company will bring this story of treachery and revenge to life from July 20th to August 19th.
Set in the kingdom of Denmark in 1938, the play’s anti-hero, Prince Hamlet, is compelled to exact revenge on his uncle, Claudius, for both the murder of his father, King Hamlet, and his uncle’s subsequent succession to the throne and marriage to Queen Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother. Guilty of his nephew’s accusations and fearful of his intent, Claudius eventually manipulates the son of his ally Polonius, Laertes, into a lethal fencing match with Hamlet by informing Laertes that Hamlet murdered Polonius. Laertes also believes Hamlet is responsible for the death of his sister, Ophelia, a death born out of madness and grief for her love of Hamlet. A final duel between Hamlet and Laertes takes place deciding the fates of all concerned.
The cast features: Sean M. Lewis as Hamlet, Jack Souza as Claudius, Lillian McLeod as Gertrude, Stephen Daly as Polonius, Elyse Sharp as Ophelia, Matthew Hobgood as Laertes, Tyler Mattson as Horatio, Jake Edmonson as Ghost, Holly Johnston & Laura Johnson as Rosencranz & Guildenstern, Clocky McDowell as Gravedigger, with special appearances from Sheila Doyle, Mike Evans, and Jim Toner. The creative team is composed of: Director Tara Kayton, Dramaturg Ryan M. Davis, Stage Manger Kierin Harrison, Costume Designer Ann Mazzaferro, Scenic Designer Misty McDowell, Lighting Designer Ross Aldrich, Scenic Carpenter Dan Swanson, Production Manager Janet Cunningham, and Production Crew: Jack Apfel-McDowell, Candice Goodman, Kevin Miller, Jenia Willhite, Gabriela Infelise, and Hugo Martinez.
