Murphys Community Park
Murphys Community Park, a place where family, friends, and visitors gather under the trees and beside the refreshing creek, will be filled with music this spring and summer when an assortment of free concerts, designed to satisfy every musical taste, is presented by the Murphys Community Club (MCC).
“We are fortunate to have this lovely park,” states club president Suzanne Friedman. “Through the efforts of volunteers, club members, and generous contributors we are able offer these events that are typical of small town America.”
First Fridays in the Park
Concluding the series on September 5 will be Chains Required, a band composed of top‐tier local musicians who really enjoy entertaining with tunes spanning from the 60’s to the present. Based in Sonora, they were named best local band in Tuolumne County by the Sierra Lodestar in 2010 and 2012. The dinner consisting of Baked Cheesy Pasta with Sausage will be created by Murphys Catering
Labor Day Concert
Included in this year’s series of free summer musical programs will be a Labor Day concert by the Calaveras Community Band on Monday, September 1, 6:30 p.m. Conductor Mic Harper will lead the group in a program covering a wide range of concert band music. Concertgoers should bring a picnic supper. There will not be any food or beverages for sale in the park.
All these programs are presented without admission charge, but it’s fair to say that attendees will not be discouraged from making free-will offerings. It is the generosity of donors that helps the Murphys Community Club maintain its popular park, the Calaveras Arts Council to present its diverse programs, and the Calaveras Community Band to perform throughout the county.
Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible.
