Family Day—A Day of Fun in the Park!
Calaveras Big Trees’ 28th Annual Family Day will soon be here! Taking place on Saturday, August 20, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the North Grove area, it promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family. You will not only have fun, but will also learn about our interesting history and diverse natural world. Presentations at the Campfire Center kick off at 10:00 a.m. with Meet the Ranger and wrap up with Wild Things (rescued and rehabilitated wild animals) from 2:35 – 3:35. U.C. Davis Raptor Center will be making its appearance at 1:00 p.m. with Live Birds of Prey. A folk song sing-along for kids of all ages will start at 11:00 a.m., followed by storyteller Jennifer Aguirre. A beautiful quilt, Dogwood Time, created by local quilters, will be raffled at 2:30. These are just a few of the many planned activities and presentations, including a horse-drawn carriage ride ($5 per person).
You don’t need to go hungry at Family Day. Arnold Lions Club is again holding a barbecue lunch ($7.50 for hamburger or hot dog, chips and a drink). Nearby you can purchase a large variety of cookies and brownies ($1 per bag). Ice cream and popcorn are $1 at the Warming Hut near the Visitor Center. Lemon-ade, iced tea and coffee are complementary. By the way, the Visitor Center and Museum are open as usu-al on Family Day.
Family Day is sponsored by CBTA as a “thank you” to the public for its support. All of the events are free (except as noted) with admission to the Park. Once again, parking will be across the highway with shuttle buses provided by Calaveras Transit.
Please join us in Calaveras Big Trees State Park for a great day of fun and education in a beautiful Sierra setting!
