Columbia State Park
Columbia State Historic Park is the setting for Columbia’s Glorious Fourth of July Celebration — on Saturday, July 4th. The Glorious Fourth Parade is the best! It’s short and shady, free and fun, with no hills to climb!
Decorate yourself and your kids, your group, your pets (under 120 pounds), your bicycle, or your antique vehicle (vintage 1965 or older), and join the parade. Registration begins at 10 am in front of the Fallon Theatre in Columbia, and the parade is at noon – following the 11 am flag raising and Black Powder Musket salute on Main Street.
Spectators will want to find a place on the boardwalk for a good view of the parade, featuring Columbia’s 2015 Grand Marshal and Goddess of Liberty (yet to be named). After the parade the Columbia Chamber of Commerce is serving pulled pork sandwiches with beans and coleslaw for $10 adults, $5 children under 10.
Enjoy the free patriotic concert by the Great Mother Lode Brass & Reed Band, and try your skill at the many contests popular in the early days of Columbia. Kids relish the greased pole climb, and other old-fashioned contests for all ages include the egg toss, watermelon-eating, cake walk, tug-o-war, and more – contests are $1 each.
Proceeds of the day benefit the Columbia Chamber of Commerce in their work to put on many free events in Columbia State Historic Park through the year. Information: 209-536-1672 or visitcolumbiacalifornia.com
