Columbia’s Glorious 4th of July Celebration
Date(s) - 07/04/2014
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Columbia State Historic Park
Columbia’s Independence Day festivities include a ceremonial flag raising at 11 am, a grand parade at noon (short and sweet and shady and fun for all ages), a patriotic concert by the Great Mother Lode Brass & Reed Band, and many old-fashioned contests, such as greased pole climbing, bucket brigade, watermelon- and pie-eating, egg relay and egg toss, cake walk, and 5-way tug-o-war. At 2 pm the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of this event, is hosting a BBQ. The parade and concert are free and each contest will only set you back a buck. BBQ prices are $10 adult, $5 for children under 10. Celebrate Independence Day in Columbia State Historic Park, the perfect family venue.
All ages are welcome to participate in the parade! Dress in red, white and blue, decorate your velocipedes and vintage vehicles (1964 or older), and dogs. Also, musicians and marching groups are welcome. Registration begins at 10:30 am near the Fallon Hotel.
