Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Calaveras Community Band at Turner Park, San Andreas, Monday, July 4th at 6:30 PM, and enjoy a free old fashioned 4th of July Concert in the shade and tranquility of Turner Park as the Band plays patriotic favorites, marches, Latin, Dixieland, and swing tunes.
Come between 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm for BBQ dinner prior to the concert served by Glenn Moore owner of Mountain Man Catering & Gifts along with his crew. The menu features Glenn’s signature Tri Tip Cheese Steak Sandwich or Pulled Pork Sandwich, Vegetable Blend w/Balsamic Vinegar dressing, and Dutch Apple Cobbler for a price of $15.00 per person. Profits from the dinner are generously donated to Calaveras Community Band for new music.
“As conductor,” stated Mic Harper, “I am always searching for new music that best suits our ensemble, engaging the musicians and entertaining our audiences at the same time. This season we are delving into the world of opera with the lovely Flower Duet from Lakme by Leo Delibes, pairing soprano saxophone and B flat clarinet solo voices. Other selections include my personal favorite John Philip Sousa’s The Black Horse Troop, W.C. Handy’s Beale Street Blues, some Henry Mancini, Scott Joplin, and even a selection from Jacques Offenbach.”
The Band is always looking for musicians to join it in providing entertainment throughout Calaveras County. “We are in great need of brass and clarinet players, all types of wind instruments are welcome”, says conductor Mic Harper.
