New Melones Visitors Center
New Melones Lake will be hosting our 23rd annual event this year on Saturday, October 10th, 2015 at the Mark Twain Recreation Area. The C.A.S.T. for Kids Fishing Fun Fair is an annual event established to encourage disabled and disadvantaged children living in the Mother Lode to fish.
The event is free but pre-registration is required for both participants and volunteers by October 2nd. Register at: http://www.castforkids.org/events-calendar/cast-events/lake-new-melones/ .
Participants will receive a fishing pole, a tackle box with tackle, a C.A.S.T. t-shirt and a complimentary BBQ lunch. Volunteers will also take a photo of each child (with their fish!) and frame it for a souvenir. There will be educational, craft, and game booths for the whole family to enjoy
In addition, Reclamation is also sponsoring Every Kid in a Park (EKIP) a new presidential initiative giving every 4th grade student in the country an opportunity with their family to experience America’s Great Outdoors. The program is designed to connect young people to the natural and cultural treasures found in the nation’s National Parks and other federally managed resource areas like New Melones.
Any 4th grade student can go online to the website: http://www.nationalparks.org/ook/every-kid-in-a-park and print out a paper voucher. The voucher can then be exchanged at the CAST event for an EKIP pass allowing the 4th grader and their family to visit all federal parks, monuments and other protected areas until August 31st 2016 free of charge! If you have any questions please call Ranger Mike McGraw or Ranger Joshua Pelham at 209-536-9094.
