Richard McKinstry, vice president of Mother Lode Bonsai Club, will demonstrate the technique for planting a bonsai grove, or forest group style. This free public event will be held immediately following the club’s monthly meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 7 at the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas.
“Through its shape and visual mass, trees in a group planting should give the appearance of walking into a forest,” said McKinstry. “This is achieved by the selection and placement of trees to create the right perspective.”
McKinstry has served in the past as president of the Modesto Bonsai Club for several terms. He also co-chaired the Golden State Bonsai Federation’s 2008 convention in Modesto and has conducted a number of do-it-yourself bonsai classes over the years.
Mother Lode Bonsai Club members come from Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne counties, as well as the central valley. Everyone is invited to attend the demonstration regardless of levels of experience. For more information, contact Bob Dean at (209) 754-5887 or go online to www.motherlodebonsai.org.
