Innovation Lab

Participants should come prepared with Pencil and notebook with some 1/4″ graph paper for sketching and if possible their own computer with the software loaded. They can go to:http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/autocad, then create an account to get a 3 year license, and then simply follow instructions to down load the full 2014 or 2015 version of AutoCAD (whichever matches the one loaded at the lab). Then activate the software from info that will be e-mailed to them from Autodesk. Students should also come with a stick drive to back-up drawings.

After a couple of intro lessons, students will understand some basic drafting conventions, some technical sketching techniques, the display interface with AutoCad software, the Alphabet of Lines used in technical drawings, how designs are represented in single view, multi-view, orthographic projection and isometric pictorials. Most importantly, they will learn the 3 basic methods of creating 2-D objects with the software, using the Absolute Coordinate system, the Relative Rectangular Coordinate system and the Polar Coordinate system. They should complete the intro with the ability to produce single view drawings using these methods.
