AAUW Sonora Screens “Girl Rising”
The AUUW Sonora Branch is meeting Thursday, November 20, at 3:30 pm at the Tuolumne County Ambulance and Fire facility located at 18440 Striker Court in Sonora – two miles up Tuolumne Road. The feature film, Girl Rising, a documentary about the power of education to change a girl-and the world, will be presented. The movie tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world who face arranged marriages, child slavery, and other heartbreaking injustices. Despite these obstacles, the brave girls offer hope and inspiration. By getting an education, they’re able to break barriers and create change. All interested persons are invited to attend.
AAUW’s mission is to break through educational and economic barriers so that all women have a fair chance, and membership is open to men and women with an AA degree or higher. The group raises funds for scholarships for local women, primarily with their annual Home Tour & Tea, which will be Saturday, December 6th, this year. Call Marilyn Graham at 536-4923 or visit aauwsonora.org for more information about the AAUW Sonora Branch.
