Church of the 49ers Celebrates 160 Years
The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, better known as the “Church of the 49ers,” was founded in 1854 – 160 years ago! To celebrate this milestone, the History Committee is planning a celebration at 10 am on Sunday, November 23rd, in the sanctuary. Special music is provided by Brent and Laurie Corson, singing and playing the old hymns on the banjo and a musical saw; and a PowerPoint presentation of old-time photographs will present a whimsical look into the history of the church and some of its pastors through the years. The celebration continues with a potluck in Faith Hall following the worship service. All are welcome to this special event of the Church of the 49ers, located on Parrotts Ferry Road and Jackson Streets in Columbia. Come in period dress, or as you are.
