Tickets are now on sale for the Tuolumne County Library’s annual fundraiser, the Trivia Bee. This year’s theme is Read Down Under, an Australian inspired topic. Audience tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at any branch of the Tuolumne County Library.
The event, which benefits the library’s literacy programs, will be held at the Sonora Opera Hall on Saturday, March 14. The evening will open with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and Trivia Bee at 6:30 p.m.
Three-member teams representing area businesses, clubs and organizations will engage in a battle of wits over a wide range of topics ranging from literature and music, to local history. The entry fee for each team is $200. New team sponsors are always welcome, according to Lynn McCormick, the library’s Youth, Literacy, and Outreach Librarian. This is a fun event and the public is encouraged to come and root for their favorite organization.
Maryan Curmi will MC the event with refreshments provided by the Sonora Emblem Club and the Sonora Mountain Lions club serving wine and beer.
The Reading Plus Adult Literacy Program provides one-on-one free and confidential tutoring for adults needing help with their reading, math or pre-GED skills. In recent months, 47 adult students participated in more than 1307 hours of literacy tutoring.
