A Trip To The Past At The Tuolumne County Museum

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Many often say to focus on the future, but for those working at the Tuolumne County Museum and History Center, it is quite the opposite.

The museum located on Bradford Avenue, in Sonora has been in existence since 1982, after previously being the county jail. Here visitors can see an accurate restoration of the jail along with the history of the county and can even look up information about relatives or other topics of interest.

President of the Historical Society, Louise Leedy says people come in for all sorts of reasons and that everyone is guaranteed to get something out of the visit. Throughout the museum there are several sections including the mysterious jail cell of Tom Horn, an inmate who killed himself by setting his cell on fire, a look at the gold rush, and a room dedicated to guns and rifles.

The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10-4p.m. and Saturday from 10-3:30p.m. For more information go to www.tchistory.org
