A cold Pacific storm will bring rapid changes to Northern California on Sunday and Monday.

Although rain and snow amounts will be light, the storm will bring much colder temperatures and gusty winds on Sunday and Monday.

The high temperatures will range from the fifties to sixties on Saturday. Temperatures will turn colder on Sunday and Monday with highs in the Sierra Nevada ranging only from the thirties to the forties. Highs in the Northern San Joaquin Valley will be in the low fifties.

Low temperatures will range from the thirties and forties on Sunday morning. By Monday morning, the temperatures will have lowered down into the teens in the Sierra Nevada, the twenties in the Mother Lode and the thirties in the Central Valley.

The precipitation threat will begin on Saturday night into early Sunday over the coastal and Shasta mountains, before moving over the Sierra Nevada by Sunday night.

A few hundredths of an inch of rain is expected in both the Central Valley and Mother Lode and up to a third-of-an-inch of rain is likely over the Sierra Nevada.

The snow levels will drop on Sunday into the Mother Lode’s foothills by the evening. The overall snow amounts will be light.

According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations of up to an inch is possible in the higher elevation of the Mother Lode.

Up to five inches of snow is possible over the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

Wind gusts in the Central Valley will range from thirty to forty mph. Wind gusts will range from fifty to sixty mph over the higher mountain peaks on Sunday and Monday.

Expect wet roads and possible chain controls in the Sierra Nevada on Sunday.
