Serious Cuts To Tuolumne County Budget

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Countless Tuolumne County department heads, veterans, and concerned residents filled the Board of Supervisors chambers Tuesday, leaving standing room only for those interested in hearing the budget discussion.

County Administrator Brent Wallace says despite an otherwise good economy, the County faces a difficult fiscal year due to obligations to Tuolumne General Hospital and the need to maintain fire protection services.

Board members heard dozens of pleas from organizations that face large cutbacks due to a lack of money in the budget.

Supervisor Dick Pland says that although there will be some fine tuning to the budget before the final review in August, there is no way all of the departments are going to get their full funding back this year.

He says there are serious cuts taking place in all departments and his top priority is law enforcement and health and safety.
