More Election Problems Popping Up

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — With the primary election less than two months away, California registrars are scrambling to fix problems in the new voter verification system.

It turns out thousands of people who thought they were registered are finding out they´re not because of some tight new rules.

Since the outset of the year, voters have been required to provide their driver´s license number, state identification card number or the last four digits of their Social Security number in order to be properly registered.

At a recent legislative hearing, elections officials said one in four registered voters is being rejected. In Tuolumne County the problem is not a big issue according to County Clerk Debbie Russell.

She says because a standard of utilizing driver´s license numbers was established a number of years ago, Tuolumne County has only had a small number rejected so far this year.
