Central Valley Braces For Flooding

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — California water officials are scrambling today to pre-emptively patch weak spots in the state´s levee system.

They are tapping into a $103 million fund emergency fund allocated for summertime levee repairs. After the rainiest March on record, many reservoirs in California´s Central Valley are groaning at full capacity. Another 10 days of rain are forecast.

Several urgent projects are under way. Six are in San Joaquin County, where authorities are bolstering levees and river banks. In Fresno County, crews are raising a levee near the town of Firebaugh west of Fresno.
