Dismal Turnout Of Fish And Game Warden Applicants Bad News

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The results from an application period for people interested in becoming Fish and Game wardens are dismal and troubling according to current wardens.

The California Department of Fish and Game, which protects the state´s 379,000 square miles of water and land environmental heritage says the results highlight California´s environmental crisis.

At the completion of this year´s application period, a total of 244 took a written test to fill 55 vacancies. In Northern California, 144 applicants applied, but only 94 bothered to show up for an interview.

Fish and Game Wardens are sworn peace officers who make arrests, use firearms, do under-cover investigations, and control crowds.

Because of the bad pay and antiquated over-time rules, officials estimate that within a few years, every new applicant will go on to work for another agency.
