Senate Leader Says Dispute Over Bonds Could Jeopardize November Vote

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The state Senate´s leader says partisan differences over a record $50 billion public works bond measure have almost scuttled any chance that the bill will make the June ballot and are threatening to prevent a November vote too.

Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata blames Republicans, saying they want wholesale rollbacks in environmental reviews of infrastructure projects and money for dams that Democrats oppose.

Republicans contend bond measures proposed by Democrats contain too much money for parks and other environmental programs and too many roadblocks in the way of levee repairs and highway projects.
