More Timber From Stanislaus National Forest To Be Removed

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Loggers will cut down more trees in Stanislaus National Forest this year.

Timber companies will cut down more than 21 million feet of lumber this year compared to 14 million feet last year.

The cutting is part of a five-year program to reduce fire hazards such as smaller trees and dead timber still standing. By 2011 officials expect to see more than 38 million board feet leaving the forest.

Stanislaus National Forest officials say the increased timber cut comes in response to a series of public workshops in the Sonora area last summer, as well as in response to a review of timber harvest plans by the US Government.
