Former Yosemite Institute Director Succumbs To Cancer

San Francisco, CA — A Bay Area commodities broker and avid outdoorsman largely responsible for saving the Yosemite National Institute in the mid-70s has passed away.

Bruce Gilchrist Duncan died of cancer January 7th at his home in Sausalito at the age of 81.

Duncan´s wife Virginia helped to found the non-profit institute in 1971. Duncan stepped in as Executive Director of the institute in 1978 seeing the organization through a period of division and crisis.

Duncan was known to spend extensive time in Yosemite National Park with family and friends.

Duncan is preceded in death by his wife Virginia. He leaves behind three sons and seven grandchildren.
