Northern California Mops Up After Torrential Rains

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Forecasters say the worst is over after two major storms dumped nearly ten inches of rain on northern California.

Parts of the Russian River are still above flood stage, but the National Weather Service expects the river to drop to below flood stage by 8:00 this morning.

During the height of the storm Sunday, the river crested nearly ten feet about flood stage. Hundreds of homes, entire farms and trailer parks were flooded.

The California Army National Guard used all-terrain vehicles to pick up people stranded by high water.

Floods also swamped thousands of acres of wine country land, but vintners escaped serious damage because grapevines are largely dormant this time of year.
