Calaveras Will Let Moratorium Expire

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Tuesday the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors decided not to renew a moratorium on zoning and general plan amendments.

In December 2006 the board passed and later extended the ban while the county worked on its outdated General Plan. The moratorium is now set to expire on December 2, 2007.

The county is only eight months in to its General Plan update and admits it won´t be complete until after 2008. But instead of continuing with the moratorium, the board opted to adopt a set of policies to guide development in the meantime.

Those policies include favoring land divisions on public sewer and water. Projects will be prioritized if they protect open space or have onsite roads built to county standards and an emphasis on affordable housing.

The board will review these policies at the end of the visioning phase of the General Plan process, which is expected to be sometime around March 2008.
