$222,320 Grant Benefits Local Nursing Program
Sonora, CA — Manikins that can sigh, blink their eyes and even open and close their mouths.
You won´t find them at Nordstrom, but you will find them at the Modesto Junior College Human Patient Simulation Laboratory on S. Forest Rd. in Sonora thanks to a $222,320 California Rural Nursing Grant from the California Employment Development Department. The three manikins accounted for $105,000 of the total grant.
Lab Coordinator Danise Rapetti says new nursing students will now have the opportunity to practice acute patient care and life-saving skills on a full-size human manikin. The simulated training enables the students to apply what they´ve learned in their coursework into realistic medical situations without compromising “real patient” care.
The goal of the college academics and training is R.N. certification. Last year, according to Rapetti, MJC nursing graduates had a 96.26% pass rate on the California Board NCLEX RN (National Council Licensure Exam for registered nurses)test.
The space for the laboratory has been donated to the nursing program through a collaborative arrangement with Sonora Regional Medical Center.
