Jamestown Jail Coming Home

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — It´s official; the Jamestown Jail is coming home.

Rescue The Historic Jamestown Jail Committee member Jim O´Neil says as of Wednesday, $34,601 had been raised and that amount will be matched by the Sonora Area Foundation. The original goal was $70-75,000.

O´Neil says the jail, now located in Pollardville, CA, will be disassembled brick by brick so as to maintain the integrity of the structure. The dismanteling will commense on April 14 and should take about a week´s time. It will then be loaded on a flatbed truck and transported to Jamestown arriving during the fourth week of April.

Full restoration of the jail will take in the neighborhood of from three to four months. The jail will be located in Rocca Park.

O´Neil says the April 28th fundraiser with plenty of good food and musical entertainment will go on as scheduled at Railtown 1897.
