“Flying Doctors”

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Back in 1974 Milt Camp created the non-profit organization the “Flying Doctors.”

The employee of Sonora Regional Medical Center was then working in Silicon Valley for Hewlett-Packard. The idea was to find a way to help the well being of individuals in places such as Mexico and Central America by providing free health care and health education.

Today the club has 450 members broken down into 4 chapters. They make trips to places such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and other areas. Camp notes it´s not just doctors who are members. In fact, around 65% are not in the medical field.

Camp says,There´s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that doesn´t require a medical person.” He adds that many young people will take the trip and then end up going into the medical field.

While Sonora does not have a chapter of the Flying Doctors, he is hoping one will be created in the near future. California has two chapters, one in San Jose and another in Auburn. Additional details about theFlying Doctors” can be found by going to www.flyingdocs.org.
