Columbia College Celebrates Third 2008 Groundbreaking Ceremony

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — Columbia College celebrated its third and final groundbreaking ceremony of the year today on its Sawmill Flat Rd. campus.

Ground has already been broken for the Public Service Building expansion and the Madrone Building. This morning it was time to turn the shovels over for the Child Development Training and Family Care Services Center.

The facility will be comprised of five integrated single-level buildings totaling 13,100 square feet. The buildings will house an infant center, toddler center, preschool center, family care services and administration center along with an adult classroom building for child development instruction. The anticipated project completion date is December, 2009.

Child Development Instructor Adrian Webster commented that the project has been in the works for approximately 10 years. Financing for the $6.3 million facility was made possible by the passage of Ballot Measure E.

The new Child Care Center will enable the college to nearly double the space for its child development program that serves students, staff, families and children. As a state subsidized program the Center will provide free or low cost child care to families who are income eligible and in need of the services offered based on work and/or school activities.
