Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — The owners of the boxer mix dog that was shot by a Sonora Police Department Officer has filed a complaint against the Department and may pursue legal action.

Co-owner Tabitha Hammons says the dogs are kept in the backyard of her home behind a six foot privacy fence and this is the first time that they had escaped.

The Police Department received a report of dogs running loose in the Sartoga Rd. area on Tuesday morning. An officer located two dogs and followed them to 187 Banner Dr.

Hammons says that the dogs were hiding underneath a truck when the officer attempted to walk to the front door of her home.

The Police Department states that the dogs charged at the officer, he feared for his safety, resulting in him shooting one of the dogs.

Hammons says that she feels an injustice was done. The incident remains under investigation by the PD.

Hammons and her fianc‚e were co-owners of the dog.
