Update: Briceburg Fire Continues To Grow In Size

Update at 4:50pm: There is no new size estimate on the Briceburg Fire but fire officials, in cooperation with the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office and CHP, will be hosting a community meeting this evening, October 8th at 7 p.m. The meeting will be in the park at Mariposa County Fire Station #21 at 6362 Highway 140 Midpines, CA.

Update at 1:42pm: The Briceburg Fire is now at 1,200 acres, up from 800 this morning.

Containment is still reported at ten percent.

Areas that are currently under a mandatory evacuation include addresses on Highway 140 between Octagon Road and Buffalo Gulch; Bug Hostel, all of Buffalo Gulch Road and Briceburg Campground.

The following areas are under advisement of a potential Evacuation Order should the conditions change: Colorado Road from Highway140 to Davis Road; all of Davis Road Highway 140 from Colorado Road to Midpines Market; Ponderosa Way including all side roads (Deer Park, Leichtlin Lane, Feliciana Mountain Road); Rancheria Creek and Rumley Mine roads.

Highway 140 is closed from Colorado Road to Savages Trading Post.

Cooperating agencies include Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office; California Highway Patrol; CALTRANS; California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation; U.S. Forest Service; Bureau of Land Management; American Red Cross; and additional agencies throughout the state.

Original Post at 8:35am: Mariposa County, CA — The Briceburg Fire burning in Mariposa County is up to 800 acres and there is 10-percent containment.

13 miles of Highway 140 remains closed between Colorado Road to Savages Trading Post. According to the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office, evacuations remain in place for both sides of Highway 140 from the Octagon to Buffalo Gulch Road, including Buffalo Gulch Road. Due to the closure, travelers on Highway 140 are not able to access Yosemite National Park via the nearby entrance. Air and ground resources will remain on scene throughout today.

A Red Cross Shelter has been established at the New Life Christian Church located at 5089 Cole Road.
