Sonora, Ca — 30-year-old Amber Ray Powell has been sentenced to nine years behind bars for the June 14 incident in which she led CHP officers on a chase on Hwy 108 and eventually collided with a vehicle driven by a Soulsbyville resident at the intersection of S. Washington St. and Hwy 108.

Powell had three young children in the vehicle at the time of the accident. She had pleaded guilty to charges of D.U.I. causing injury, felony child abuse and being a habitual traffic offender.

The Court imposed a sentence of nine years for the D.U.I. offense. There were an additional nine years for the child abuse charge which was stayed, and an additional six months for the habitual traffic offender charge.

Powell is married to Larry James DeRossette, Jr. who was recently sentenced to five years in state prison for the early morning July 30 holdup of the Tesoro service station mini-mart (Whistle Stop) on Hwy 108 at Rawhide Rd.
