Update: Columbia Air Heading To Fire Reported In Calaveras County

Update at 2:50 p.m.: Fire crews have contained the Mason Fire burning along the 2700 block of Mason Road near Wharregard Road in the Rail Road Flat area. CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that all the Columbia aircraft have been released from the scene as the flames have been contained at a total of 2.3 acres. A small crew will remain on scene mopping up for the next hour. No injuries were reported and what ignited the flames is under investigation.

Update at 2:30 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore reports that crews are making good progress on the dubbed “Mason Fire” that is estimated three-acres. It is burning in the brush along the 2700 block of Mason Road near Wharregard Road in the Rail Road Flat area. She adds that the Columbia tankers have been released, but the helitack remains on the scene. The flame’s rate of spread is moderate and no structures are threatened. 

Update at 2:05 p.m.:  CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore tells Clarke Broadcasting that the fire is three acres in size and burning at a moderate rate of spread. It is unclear if any structures are threatened at this time. The fire ignited along the 2700 block of Mason Road near Wharregard Road in the Rail Road Flat area.
